Launch Standard Grapher Launch Small Screen Version
The Standard Map is unlike any of the other programs. It plots singular points and can be used to show a Strange Attractor.

| The x and y state variables their initial conditions must be specified. Lambda and k are the 2 parameters of this map. They may be manipulated to demonstrate the different types of behavior. |
Because the Standard Grapher graphs so many points it is advised to run the program with the speed turned up fairly high.
Some simple activities are:
Set Lambda to 1. Set k to 0 and y to 0. What do you get?
Set Lambda to 1. Set k to 0 and y to another number. What do you get?
Set Lambda to 1, y to 3, and x to 2.Start increasing k by .1 increments. What happens?
Try the above activity with different y values.
Set Lambda to 0.6, and k to 6 to see a strange attractor. Notice different initial conditions do not affect this attractor.
