Guidelines for Disorder and ChaosWelcome to the Spring 2001 version of Chemistry 106. This sheet contains general information about the specifics of the course, e.g., grading, assignments, etc. You should both read and retain this sheet for future reference. Offices: Desjardins, Science Center A428; Pleva, Science Center A330A
Problem Sets: The problem sets (homework) will be handed out each Thursday. They will be due on the following Thursday. When the sets are handed out, we will work with you in class that day to help get you started on each set. BRING YOUR CALCULATORS, because they will prove useful. After class Thursday, take the problem set home and finish it up, to be handed in the following week. With regard to the Honor Code: In working these problems you must stipulate in writing any consultations you may have used in doing these problems. (Such consultations would include: your notes, texts or other reference materials, discussions with other class members or Drs. Pleva and/or Desjardins) We want to encourage you to talk to your peers and to us for clarification and understanding, but only up to the point when you begin to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) to write out your answers. Late assignments will not be accepted! Computer Labs/Lab Reports: Labs will meet on Monday or Wednesday afternoons, at which time you will be engaged in computer simulations as well as actual laboratory demonstrations/experiments. Both of these will require write-ups on your part. These write-ups will be about 4-5 pages (total) in length, covering the laboratory material for that week. Again with respect to the Honor Code: You may collaborate freely when running programs and/or gathering data and you may exchange any information about what's going on as you are performing the computer exercise and laboratory experiment. Once you obtain your results, however, we expect you to provide your own pledged interpretation of these results and submit your own final version of the work. Again, late assignments will not be accepted! Your are to hand in the previous week's assignment at the next lab meeting. Exams: Closed book tests will be given at midterm ( the Monday of the 4th week) and during finals period to gauge your general knowledge of the course. | |||||||||||||||||||||
